GIVING TUESDAY

Dear Pioneer,
This year, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, Pioneers are participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving.
Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday.  Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities.  We invite you to join the movement and to get out and give this November 29.  Some ideas include:
  • In honor of our 105th anniversary, hold a Dish It Up campaign with the goal of contributing 105 items of food for the homeless. Or collect 105 pairs of socks for your local shelter or 105 books for children in need.
  • Help spread the word about #GivingTuesday.  Ask you friends and family to remember the Pioneers on this day of giving by donating through our onine giving campaign. You may donate through our website or Facebook page links.
  • Recruit new members. This is the best way to help Pioneers grow our reach in our communities. 105 new members would be a great way to celebrate!
The work we do is a gift we give back to our communities. We can’t begin to thank you enough.
Yours in Pioneering,
Charlene Hill
Executive Director
P.S. We are hoping to raise $20,000 this Giving Tuesday. Because this is an on-line donation campaign, we hope you will invite your friends and family to pick Pioneers as their cause to support on this global day of giving.

Nineteen Pairs of Sneakers

Beckley SneakersEvery Wednesday evening volunteers at Beckley First Baptist Church packs food for 19 children at Beckley Elementary School who are at risk of not having food for the weekend.  The school guidance counselor, Mrs. Norris, refers these students to the church.

Names of the children are confidential.  Each of the children is assigned a numbered backpack.   Every Friday they receive the backpack filled with two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and a bag of snacks.

Realizing the needs of the students is greater than just food we try to provide other necessities when possible.  With the gift of $300.00 from New Vision Pioneers Dodds Foundation Grant, $50.00 from WV Chapter #42 and approximately $100.00 from Beckley First Baptist Church we were able to purchase shoes for all 19 students.

Beckley 2016 ProjectThe Counselor supplied us with the gender, grade and shoe size of each child.  We were asked to package the shoes in a way the other students would not know what our Backpack Kids were given.  Mrs. Norris called each student into her office individually and presented the shoes to him or her.  She said each one was very excited.  The next day she noticed most of the students were wearing their new sneakers.

We are so grateful to New Vision Pioneers Beckley Life Member Club for their generosity in helping our Beckley community.
